When I log in as a user with local admin rights, the audio in Youtube works just fine. I am trying to get sound on internet explorer again. If it isn't, but there is a copy somewhere else. One of the playback devices had a green checkmark which signified it as the default. It's not Internet Explorer, it's most likely the media players or shockwave.

Windows media player works and a radio gadget works but normal windows sounds don't. Leads me to believe that some setting. I had been checking everything I could - sound cards, internet, speakers and nothing would fix the problem. I've searched through forums to no avail, trying all sorts. No idea what the driver update could have wonkered up in your setup since it didn't do anything in mine.
