One day he concocts a plan to have a day off by tricking the farmer into going back to sleep by counting his sheep repeatedly. The easily foreseeable conclusion is also a little too pat. Now they need to get back to the farm. He drowns his sorrows with his housemate and best friend Ed at the Winchester. His colleagues disrespect him, he is estranged from his stepfather Philip, and his girlfriend Liz breaks up with him, unhappy spending every date at his local pub, the Winchester. Shaun, a mischievous sheep living with his flock at Mossy Bottom Farm, is bored with the routine of life on the farm. It is rich in colour and detail, the characters are adorable and cleverly modelled and there is some nice visual invention here, like the cave paintings.
Visually, the film is a delight. But, an animal control worker named Trumper possibly will intervene their plan. At home, their housemate Pete, complaining of a bite wound from a drunk, berates Shaun to get his life together. He and Ed encounter two zombies in their garden and kill them with blows to the head. When more happens than they can handle, the sheep find their way in the big city. Then again, with a studio as consistently very good to great as Aardman, that is not a standard that can be reached constantly. One is genuinely immersed in this colourful Stone Age world.
Despite how mismatched it sounds having Stone Age inhabitants having their version of football, the combination actually goes very well. However, the caravan in which they put the farmer to bed accidentally rolls away, taking him all the way into the city. . By morning, a zombie apocalypse has overwhelmed London, but the hungover Shaun is slow to notice. Bitzer, the farmer's dog, chases after him. After some accidental events with the Farmer, with the sole purpose of having a day off, Shaun and the gang must find the Farmer in the Big City and get back to the Mossy Bottom Farm before the Evil Animal Containment worker Trumper catches them all. The music score is suitably energetic and really gives the film its momentum and adds to it.
Philip makes peace with Shaun, dies from his bites, and reanimates as a zombie. He decides to take a day off. . . . .
